Meet Peter McAdoo: An interview with Innovative Partners’ summer intern

Innovative Partners is a Carlowrie Group business which provides wraparound growth support for UK businesses. This summer, they welcomed Peter McAdoo to the team as a Saltire Scholar intern. Peter has quickly become a key member of the team, and has also become an excellent extra pair of hands helping out our charity The Breakfast Bothy. He spoke to us about his experience as an intern.

How did you get this internship with Innovative Partners?

It was through the Saltire Scholars programme, which I applied to back in September. The programme sets up students at Scottish universities with different job opportunities they can apply to. I’ve really enjoyed my time so far with Innovative Partners and it has given me great experience for the future.

What does a typical day look like for you as an intern?

A day as an intern for Innovative Partners can look like anything, it varies each day. I’ve been working on a number of different claims and projects. I’ve been stretched and tested throughout the internship, using my full skillset. My strongest side has been collating financial documents and using my spreadsheet skills. Overall, the days are varied and no two are ever the same.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I’m part of a pipe band and I’m a drummer. I’ve just come from competing in the World Pipe Band Championships throughout the summer, where my band did very well. I love how sociable it is, and at home I can always be found drumming on a drum pad.

What advice would you have given your past self on your first day of this internship?

I would have told myself not to be so nervous. As this was my first professional job it was quite scary going in on the first day not knowing how the day would shape up. But once I took the nerves out of it, it’s been really comfortable and everyone across the Innovative Partners team and the Carlowrie Group has been so welcoming.

If all the colleagues at Innovative Partners created a sports team what would it be and why?

As the team at Innovative Partners is quite tall, I believe we could create a basketball or netball team and put that height to use. I’d put myself in the centre court position. Who’s challenging us?

If you were to start your own charity, what would it be and how would you raise funds for it?

I’d do something similar to Entrepreneurial Scotland, as I’d like to give back and provide opportunities to young people. I’d host a day in the sun with the pipe band involved, a bouncy castle, and a barbeque.
