Statement from Carlowrie Group
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Marshall, founder of Carlowrie Group.
Andrew founded a wide range of successful ventures in property, hospitality, finance, charities, and an environmental initiative in the Outer Hebrides. In everything he did, he worked to leave a positive impact for communities, the environment, and the economy in an approach to business he termed The Carlowrie Way.
Following early success in property development in London, Andrew moved his business ventures to Scotland, purchasing Carlowrie Castle in 2012 and opening the doors to the newly-refurbished luxury events venue in 2014. Carlowrie Castle quickly won awards and in 2024 gained B Corp certification, reflecting Andrew’s core values in community and environmental impact.
Andrew was inspired by the life of Isobel Wylie Hutchison, former resident of Carlowrie Castle and renowned Arctic explorer, botanist, poet and artist. Every year since 2019 he presented The Isobel Award to an unsung hero in her honour, humbly celebrating others who make positive contributions to the community.
Inspired by his love of the street food culture in Oslo, Andrew was the co-founder and spark behind setting up Edinburgh Street Food. Andrew’s determination, positivity and commitment were the driving force that brought this much loved business to life.
In 2019, together with a longtime friend and business partner, Andrew launched Innovative Partners Ltd to help businesses access funding and support to grow. Innovative Partners has grown exponentially, solidifying its reputation as a trusted partner for entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Andrew’s true passion lay in making a positive social impact. He founded RESTART Lives homelessness charity in London in 2009, which he remained actively involved with, including recently participating in his 10th sleep out fundraiser for the charity. During the 2020 lockdown, he saw a growing need to support people in Edinburgh, and founded The Breakfast Bothy charity with the team at Carlowrie Castle. The Breakfast Bothy continues to provide free meals and hot drinks to those experiencing homelessness.
His most recent venture was an environmental initiative on the remote island of Ronay in the Outer Hebrides. Working with his business partner, he sought to increase the biodiversity on the land and honour the area’s history of seaweed harvesting by creating sustainable seaweed-based products in a circular economy model.
Andrew was a devoted and loving father to Oliver and Christian, beloved son to Wilson and Katie, loving partner to Alex, and wonderful brother to Euan and Sarah. An adored uncle to all his nieces and nephews. A dearly loved and loyal friend to so many.
He will be remembered by so many for his warmth, curiosity, energy, and generosity. All Carlowrie Group brands continue to operate as normal, led by the talented leadership teams Andrew put in place. They will continue to deliver his vision and values.
His family kindly asks for privacy at this time.
